A Poem of Flames

You do not need to choose mediocre when fire exists
— Victoria Erickson

I know fire
I have seen it
Danced with it
Kindled it
And been burned by it

I know it well, that flame
That burst of energy
That sudden spark to life
As match meets box
The scraping sound followed by ignition

That is the roar inside my heart
The passion that beats in my breast
Wild and untamed
Raw blue-white flame
It leaps out
At times unprompted
Eager to consume
Devour all it touches

This flame may yet
Overtake me, overwhelm me
In my soul, I know
There is no stopping
I will not settle for anything less
